Guanajuato!

On Saturday, June 11th, we headed to Guanajuato. We arrived to the city around 11 AM and they told us that we had until 5:30 to do whatever we wanted. Although, this seems like a lot of time, we felt like we had to rush to see everything that we saw. Of course, we started by visiting the museum of mummies which was home to over 100 mummies. The story about how a mummy museum was ever created is quite interesting and if you want more information then go to this site!! http://www.mummytombs.com/mummylocator/group/guanajuato.htm

It was by far the oddest museum that I have been to and my photographs only show a couple of the rooms, due to not being able to use my camera until the last couple rooms. The oddest exhibit was an exhibit of a mother and her 6 month old fetus (both mummified). This little mummy is the world’s smallest mummy. Way to go Guanajuato. After we walked out of the mummy museum we were immediately attacked by all of the local merchants trying to sell us mummy key chains, mummy shot glasses and anything else you think a mummy could be turned into.  After purchasing a few things from the locals we started walking to the Centro which was a couple miles of walking up and down hills. The architecture of the city is amazing and very colonial. A majority of the thin streets in Guanajuato were once underground tunnels that received and carried water from the forest to the outskirts of Guanajuato. This makes for a great atmosphere of traffic free streets throughout the city. While in Guanajuato, we made our way to a ton of different stores and visited the local market which was a 2 story building with an open middle that was filled with mostly food vendors. The prices in Guanajuato were incredibly cheap and I found it really easy to drive down the prices of whatever I was buying.
