"If they are going to win this match, they’re going to have to score a goal!"

I went to my first soccer game in Mexico Today. It was one of the opening games of the Fifa World Cup for 17 year olds. The TEC had a ton of free tickets to the Germany vs. Ecuador game so of course I decided to go. We arrived there a couple hours before the game and decided to chill around and get some concession food. I ended up getting a burger which had the patty, cheese, ham, sliced tomatoes, chili pepper, ketchup and mustard.  It was one of the best burgers that I have gotten from a sporting event and wasn’t too expensive either. The game started rather slow with a score of 1-0 at half time but then in the second half, Germany picked it up. Germany ended up dominating the match with a 6-1 victory. Even though the players were only 17, they played better and the game was more fun to watch then when I watch Bradley soccer games... It was fun to see the different chants that they had in Mexico. The chants involved more cursing and I thought were more fun especially with liters of beer for only $4!! I was a little disappointed that there were no fights but the game after we left ended up having a huge fight and had people from the crowd storm the field. I regret not staying for the second game but ohh well; it was fun none the less.

On the 22nd of June, Brett, Becky, Lyndsey, Sarah and I headed to the Centro after classes to watch the Fifa under 21 semi finals. We walked around in the Centro until we found a bar with $25 peso margaritas that were quite big. We each got one of those while we waited for the U.S. vs. Panama game to get started. After finishing the first margaritas, we found out that the game wasn’t streaming to their tv so we found another bar that had the game planning and decided to grab some drinks and watch the games there. After U.S. won 1-0 and four or so beers later, we decided to head back to the margarita bar because we assumed that they would at least be able to get the Mexico game. But before we got a chance to leave, the bar must have hired some guy to sing Karaoke. This guy was really into it too. I put a photo of him here to the left but this picture doesn’t do justice to how intense he was singing for a crowd of 7 people… We finally made it to the Mexico vs. Honduras game which had to be one of the most boring games I have watched. Luckily a couple more margaritas and a pit stop to the torta restaurant made the night fun. The game ended up going into overtime, where Mexico scored in the first 3 minutes and then again about 15 minutes in. This is when we decided to take our leave because it was rearing 11:30 and we have class at 8 am. So Brett and I caught a taxi back to the house and called it a night.
